Chris says of his work “the feeling for my pots comes from my childhood and later apprenticeship spent in Japan”. He does not try to make Japanese-style work but there is an unmistakably Eastern sense of form and strength in his work.  As well as chopping huge amounts of wood, he also studied a variety of styles and firing techniques in whilst in Japan which has informed his desire to make a wide range of pieces. He makes shapes that are good to use and feel good to hold - small pots with delicacy, big ones with power.
