We have just collected a beautiful new series of paintings by John Piper, a few familiar themes, some nostalgic colour combinations and lots of solid impasto revealing scraffito and layers of rich colour. We think you will agree that this is an impressive new collection for the new season.
John Piper became a member of the Newlyn Society of Artists in 1977 and was made chairman a few years later. He taught painting and drawing for twenty years in Cornish schools and in 1995 left teaching in order to paint full-time. He has exhibited widely for over thirty years with one-man shows in England and abroad.
John has been profoundly influenced by the Cornish landscape and this is always the subject matter of his painting, through the themes of moors, cliffs, headlands, fields, coastline, cottages, hedges and boundaries. The image is often stark but the treatment is always sympathetic and the end result one of balance. |
